This route will satisfy even the most exacting tourist. It passes along one of the most beautiful mountain ridges of Altai - North Chujsky Ridge. During the trip you’ll have a chance to see the second highest mountain top of Altai Republic Maashej-Bash (4173 m), the severe beauty of glaciers and rocks of Karakabaka, to try climbing peak "Hunter" (3200 m). Lakes Maashej and Karakabaksky will amaze you with their marvelous grandeur, unforgettable color and unique scenery of the surrounding landscape.

Arrival to the tourist centre "Katun". The delivery of the tourist equipment and packed lunch. A trip to the merge of the rivers Chuya and Mazhoja. The road passes along the well-known Chujsky road. During the trip you'll have a chance to view the stone sculptures and the barrows of Pazyryksky culture, to make a visit to the ancient open-air sanctuary "Kalbak-tash" with a large number of petroglyphs. Starting from village Chibit the road enters a narrow and deep gorge of river Chuya. Camp setting. A rest by the fire. |

2 day |
A move from the mouth of river Mazhoj to the merge of rivers Mazhoj and Karakabak. The only obstacle on the way is Mazhojsky pass. Further on the track goes along the valley of river Mazhoj. A magnificent panorama opens on Kurajsky ridge and the tops of the North Chujsky ridge. |

Radial exit to lake Maashej. The track goes along Mazhoj. You'll be faced by two simple crossings passing through the inflows of Mazhoj. After you rise on a moraine, a majestic view of the second highest top of Altai (Maashej-bash - 4 170 m) will open before you. |

A trip to the valley of river Karakabak. You'll have to cross a small, but steep enough pass. The top of mount Karakabak (translated as "black warder") will open before you. |

A day stand. A radial exit to Karakabaksky lakes. Gorge Karakabak will amaze you with its severity and unique beauty, and turquoise color of lakes will satisfy even a most exacting spectator. The tourists may choose the further direction: an exit to a glacier to the sources of the river Karakabak or a rise to peak "Hunter" (3200 m, complexity category - 2А). On reaching this top, you'll have a chance to see the unique lake covered with ice all year long. |
